Fiona Bruce MP has met Roads Minister Andrew Jones MP to press the case for further funding for the Middlewich Bypass.
Following approval a few days ago of the Outline Business Case by Cheshire East Council the MP immediately met with the Department of Transport Minister to present the arguments within it to him.
Fiona Bruce MP said "It was important I met with the Minister straight away - as soon as the Business Case was approved - to press the key arguments for Government funding for this Bypass which will benefit not just Middlewich but the wider region – for example – in the 2000 potential new jobs which this road could open up employment land for. Other areas are competing strongly for this money and we have to make our voice heard loud and clear."
She continued
"We have powerful arguments for this, as I confirmed to the Minister, - there are daily chronic congestion difficulties and the Bypass would also support the delivery of a new railway station in Middlewich. I am determined to ensure these arguments are heard loud and clear in Westminster. And as I said to the Minister, after well over two decades, people have waited long enough for this Bypass."
"The Minister confirmed to me he welcomed this meeting, since whilst a General Election has been called, and Parliament will close down within days, consideration of this issue at the Department of Transport will not stop over the next few weeks, and this is therefore a critical moment to ensure the detailed arguments for a Bypass in Middlewich are clearly communicated, - hence my meeting with the Minister."
The MP concluded "I am committed to working closely with Cheshire East Council on this - it is that effective joint working which secured initial Government funding last year towards this development of this Business Case."
