"Well done and thank you once again to Middlewich Town Council for this year's Roman Festival - another cracking - and free - event for all the family in the local community and beyond. A real chance for young (and not so young!) people to learn more about Middlewich's heritage on the very field which was the site of a Roman encampment - the clothes and shoes they wore, medical treatments (aaaargh!) , tools and utensils they used - domestically and in battle - and gladiators ' fights - including women gladiators! It was impressive to see people visiting us from all over the country - not just from Chester - as one would expect - but as far afield as Bedfordshire and Essex - and though the weather wasn't kind, our redoubtable Town Council staff, some Town Council Members, and volunteers, continued to man the barricades - well, the encampment !- through wind, heavy rain at times, and plenty of mud - to ensure this time the Romans were given a customary Middlewich welcome!"
