Beer Duty

Thank you to constituents who have contacted me regarding a cut in Beer Duty. Please be assured I have read these comments carefully.

As constituents are probably aware, the Government took the decision to end the beer duty escalator in 2013, and beer duty has been frozen or cut several times since then. Duty on spirits has been frozen over the past two years. As a result of these changes, a typical pint is cheaper than it would have been had these measures not been introduced.

I want to see the Government continue to support pubs appropriately, as a vital part of local community life. A call for evidence by Government was published at the end of September 2020 on the issue of reform of the current duty system and the results will be published shortly.
