Today, during Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons, Fiona raised the concerning situation facing many Afghans of religious minorties who remain in the country.
Fiona asked the Prime Minister the following question,
"As we celebrate the advent of Christmas, I thank the Prime Minister for his support for Christians, and those of other faiths and beliefs, who face persecution across the world. We here stand with them. The Government have talked about the gift of resettlement for Afghans who are members of religious minorities—those who are at risk of persecution, targeted for their beliefs. Will this gift of resettlement be available by the end of Christmas?"
Responding to FIona's question, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson MP said,
"I thank my hon. Friend for everything that she does, particularly as special envoy for freedom of religion or belief. As she rightly says, we have an Afghan citizens resettlement scheme coming. We have already taken 15,000, but it is important that we get that scheme right. Further details, including the eligibility criteria, will be announced by the Home Office in due course."
