Many constituents have contacted me about a People’s Vote.

I do appreciate their strength of feeling on this matter.

However, the people of the United Kingdom voted in a free and fair referendum to leave the European Union. Government literature issued at the time of the referendum informed the public that the result of the vote would be implemented. Both the Conservative and Labour parties stood on a platform that included a manifesto commitment to leave the European Union in 2017 and I believe that it is in the interests of democracy that we continue to respect the result of the referendum.
